The Lace Pattern

The lace pattern repeat consists of 17 stitches and 12 rows. Follow the chart provided in the original instructions, repeating the 12-row sequence as directed for each size.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. The Back

Using 4.5 mm needles, cast on 42 (25) 42 (25) 42 (25) sts using the Long Tail Cast On method.

Setup Row (WS): Edge st, purl to the last st, edge st.

Work the back from the top down, increasing on both sides of every row to shape the upper back. Follow the row-by-row instructions for your size, incorporating the 12-row lace pattern repeats. The increases are worked as M1L at the beginning and M1R at the end of the RS rows, and M1RP/M1LP on the WS rows.

Continue working until you reach the total stitch count for your size: 76 (93) 110 (127) 144 (161) sts.

Finish by working 30 (26) 26 (20) 20 (28) rows without increases in the lace pattern. End on a WS row. Place all stitches on a holder.

2. Right Front Panel

Using 4.5 mm needles, pick up and knit 22 (39) 39 (56) 56 (73) sts along the right shoulder of the back, from the armhole toward the neckline.

Setup Row (WS): Edge st, purl to the last st, edge st.

Work in the lace pattern, increasing on the side to shape the panel. Follow the row-by-row directions for your size. Finish by placing 45 (62) 66 (83) 87 (104) sts on a holder.

3. Left Front Panel

Using 4.5 mm needles, pick up and knit 22 (39) 39 (56) 56 (73) sts along the left shoulder of the back, from the neckline toward the armhole.

Setup Row (WS): Edge st, purl to the last st, edge st.

Work symmetrically to the right front panel, incorporating the lace pattern and required increases. Finish by placing 45 (62) 66 (83) 87 (104) sts on a holder.

4. The Body

Join the left front, back, and right front into one piece. Cast on new stitches for the underarm gaps as follows:

  • XS (S): [Left Front] Edge st, 6K, 2x (3x) lace pattern, 4K, cast on 9 sts, [Back] 4K, 4x (5x) lace pattern, 4K, cast on 9 sts, [Right Front] 4K, 2x (3x) lace pattern, 6K, edge st.
  • M (L): [Left Front] Edge st, 2K, *yo, 1K (repeat from * 2 times), yo, 3x k2tog, 3x (4x) lace pattern, 4K, cast on 9 sts, [Back] 4K, 6x (7x) lace pattern, 4K, cast on 9 sts, [Right Front] 4K, 3x (4x) lace pattern, 3x ssk, *yo, 1K (repeat from * 2 times), yo, 2K, edge st.
  • XL (2XL): [Left Front] Edge st, 6K, *yo, 1K (repeat from * 2 times), yo, 3x k2tog, 4x (5x) lace pattern, 4K, cast on 9 sts, [Back] 4K, 8x (9x) lace pattern, 4K, cast on 9 sts, [Right Front] 4K, 4x (5x) lace pattern, 3x ssk, *yo, 1K (repeat from * 2 times), yo, 6K, edge st.

Total stitches on needle: 184 (235) 260 (311) 336 (387) sts.

Work the body in rows. Perform increases every 4th row for sizes XS (S) and every 3rd row for sizes M (L) XL (2XL) to shape the front panels.

5. Bottom Hem Options

Option A: Pullover / Sleeveless (Ribbed Hem)

Transfer the first 54 (71) 80 (97) 88 (105) sts of the right front to a second circular needle. Position it in front of the other needle to create the wrap overlap.

Join the right front stitches to the left front stitches by knitting them together as k2tog. This results in 170 (204) 238 (272) 306 (340) sts.

Switch to 3.5 mm needles. Work in the round: *1K, 1P* until the end of the round. Repeat for 7 cm. Bind off using the Italian Bind-Off method.

Option B: Cardigan / Vest (With Ties)

Knit a double-layered band using a 4.5 mm needle. Cast on 5 sts. Work in rows, joining the band to the body on every RS row. Repeat the band sequence until all body stitches are closed.

Ties: Knit two ties in double stockinette stitch, approximately 35 cm long. Sew the first tie to the bottom left side and the second tie to the bottom right side. Add a hidden snap button to secure the wrap.

6. Sleeves (Pullover/Cardigan only)

For the right sleeve: Pick up 9 (9) 9 (9) 9 (9) sts from the underarm cast-on and 59 (76) 76 (93) 93 (110) sts along the armhole. Join in the round (68 (85) 85 (102) 102 (119) sts total).

Work in the round using the lace pattern repeats. Adjust the sleeve length by adding or subtracting repeats of the 12-row sequence.

Work the final 12 rows of the lace pattern with decreases to taper the wrist. For the final round, follow the size-specific decrease instructions to reach 46 (50) 60 sts.

Switch to 3.5 mm needles. Work *1K, 1P* ribbing for 7 cm. Bind off using the Italian Bind-Off method. Repeat for the left sleeve.

7. Armhole Finishing (Sleeveless/Vest only)

Pick up stitches along the armhole. Work a hollow I-cord using 3 stitches, joining the last stitch of the cord to the first picked-up stitch of the armhole. Continue until the armhole is fully finished. Repeat for the other side.

8. Front Band and Neckline

Pick up stitches along the front edges and back neckline:

  • Right Front: 112 (112) 136 (136) 148 (148) sts
  • Back Neck: 40 (20) 40 (20) 40 (20) sts
  • Left Front: 112 (112) 136 (136) 148 (148) sts

Work a double-layered stockinette band by casting on 5 sts and joining them to the picked-up stitches row by row, starting from the bottom of the right panel. Work until the band is complete.

Final Finishing

Weave in all loose ends. Wash the garment according to the yarn care instructions. Lay flat on a blocking surface and block to the final measurements
