Let’s Crochet an Owl Pencil Topper!

Hello crafty friends! I’m so excited to share the third design in our pencil topper series – this adorable owl! After our previous cat and frog designs, I knew an owl would be the perfect next addition for all you owl lovers out there. 🦉

Adorable Owl Pencil Topper: Free Crochet Pattern

Materials Needed

Yarn:

  • Gazzal Baby Cotton in:
    • Lilac (3420) – main color
    • White (3432)
    • Small amount of orange

Other Supplies:

  • 2.0 mm crochet hook
  • Black embroidery thread
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • MR: Magic ring
  • ch: Chain
  • sc: Single crochet
  • inc: Increase (2 sc in same stitch)
  • dec: Decrease (sc2tog)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Head (Lilac yarn)

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR
  2. R2: 6 inc = 12 sc
  3. R3: (1 sc, 1 inc)*6 = 18 sc
  4. R4: (2 sc, 1 inc)*6 = 24 sc
  5. R5: (3 sc, 1 inc)*6 = 30 sc
  6. R6-10: 30 sc
  7. R11: (3 sc, 1 dec)*6 = 24 sc
  8. R12-13: 24 sc
  9. Stuff firmly and close

Pencil Holder

  1. Ch 9 and join to form ring
  2. Work 8 sc in rounds until desired length
  3. Sew to bottom of head

Eyes (Make 2, White yarn)

  1. R1: 6 sc in MR
  2. R2: 6 inc = 12 sc
  3. Leave long tail for sewing
  4. Embroider black pupils before attaching

Beak (Orange yarn)

  1. Embroider triangle between eyes

Ear Tufts (Orange yarn)

  1. Make small pom-poms or tassels
  2. Attach to top sides of head

Assembly

  1. Sew eyes to face
  2. Add beak between eyes
  3. Attach ear tufts
  4. Connect pencil holder to head

Finishing Touches

  1. Make sure all parts are securely attached
  2. Weave in all ends neatly
  3. Slide onto your favorite pencil
