Little Hand-Sized Unicorn: A Free Amigurumi Pattern

Little Hand-Sized Unicorn: A Free Amigurumi Pattern

Mane and Tail

The original pattern suggests using small amounts of contrasting plush yarn for the mane and tail.

  • Tail: Cut several short strands of colorful plush yarn. Tie or sew them together at one end, then attach to the back of the body (around rounds 3-4 of the body).
  • Mane: Cut small strands and attach them along the back of the head and neck, between the ears and down to the upper back. You can also surface crochet or sew in loops for a fuller look.

Pro tip: Use a small hook (2.5-3.0 mm) to pull the mane strands through the stitches. This makes it much easier with plush yarn!

Assembly and Finishing Touches

Attach Ears

Sew the ears to the head between Rounds 9 and 10. The distance between the ears should be about 5-6 stitches.

Attach Horn

Sew the horn to the center of the forehead, between Rounds 7, 8, and 9 (positioned slightly above and between the eyes).

Optional – Face Shaping (Eye Tugging)

The pattern includes a helpful diagram for making small “tugs” to shape the face. This is optional, but it gives the unicorn a sweeter, more expressive look.

  1. Bring the needle from the chin area to point #1 (marked in white on the diagram)
  2. Insert the needle at point #2 and return it to the chin
  3. Repeat for point #3 and point #4
  4. Gently pull and tie off at the chin
  5. Then follow the red numbers for an optional second set of tugs

Embroider Face Details

Using a thin black thread or embroidery floss:

  • Eyebrows: Small curved stitches above each eye
  • Nostrils: Tiny stitches on the snout (optional)
