The Eggshell Edge
Return to the front loops of Round 16. Using white yarn, crochet the following sequence around the edge to create the shell detail:
(sc, hdc, 3 dc in one stitch, hdc, sc, sl st) x12
Tip: You can neatly sew the edge down to the body to prevent it from sticking out too far.
Wings (Make 2)
Using Yellow yarn:
- Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)
- Round 2: (sc, inc) x3 (9)
- Round 3: (2 sc, inc) x3 (12)
- Round 4: 12 sc
- Round 5: (3 sc, inc) x3 (15)
- Round 6: (4 sc, inc) x3 (18)
- Round 7: 18 sc
Fold the piece in half and crochet 9 sc across the edge to close. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the wings symmetrically to the sides of the body between rounds 22 and 23.
Feet (Make 2)
Using Brown yarn:
Chain 7. Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook: 4 sl st, chain 5, 4 sl st, chain 5, 4 sl st, sl st into the 5th loop, and 2 sl st in the remaining stitches.
Small Flowers (Make 3)
Using your choice of color:
- Round 1: 5 sc in MR, sl st to join.
- Round 2: In each stitch, work (2 ch, 2 dc, 2 ch, sl st) x5.
Assembly and Finishing Touches
- Eyes: Glue the 8mm half-beads onto the 10mm felt circles, then glue them to the face of the chick.
- Details: Sew the brown feet to the bottom and attach the small flowers to the white eggshell part for extra decoration.
- Closing: Ensure all ends are woven in securely with your yarn needle
