Crochet Rose Pattern Instructions

How to Crochet the Stem (Green Yarn)

This part will be worked in a flat row and then sewn around the wooden dowel.

Row 1: Chain 37. Starting in the third chain from the hook, work 1 DC in each chain across. [35 sts]

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. You will use this tail to sew the long sides of the rectangle together, wrapping it around the wooden dowel.

How to Crochet the Rose Petals (Red Yarn)

This section creates the beautiful, ruffled petals of the rose.

Row 1: Chain 34. Starting in the second chain from the hook, make 1 SC in each stitch across. [33 sts]

Row 2: Ch 2 and turn. *(In the first st make 1 HDC, Ch 1, skip the next st, and make 1 HDC in the next st).* Repeat the sequence in parentheses across the entire row. You will have a total of 11 chain-1 gaps to work into for the next row. [33 sts, including chains]

Row 3: Ch 1 and turn. In the first chain-1 gap, work the following petal sequence: (1 sl st, 1 SC, 1 HDC, 1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC, 1 HDC, 1 SC, 1 sl st). Repeat this entire sequence in every chain-1 gap across the row. [99 sts]

Fasten off, leaving a very long tail for assembly.

Assembly and Finishing Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble your beautiful crochet rose.

Step 1: Assemble the Stem. Wrap your flat green stem piece around the wooden dowel. Using the long tail and a yarn needle, sew the long edges together neatly to encase the dowel. Make sure to leave about 7 cm of the wooden dowel exposed at the bottom.

Step 2: Create the Rose Bloom. Take your red petal piece from Row 3. Starting from one end, begin to roll it up tightly to form the rose shape. Use the long yarn tail and your needle to sew through the bottom layers as you roll to secure the shape.

Step 3: Secure the Rose. Once fully rolled, continue to pass the needle through the bottom edge multiple times to ensure the rose bloom is tight and will not unravel. Secure with a knot.

Step 4: Attach the Bottom Piece. Take the green bottom piece (the sepal) and place it against the bottom of the red rose bloom. Use its long tail to sew it securely in place.

Step 5: Attach the Rose to the Stem. Insert the top of the green stem into the base of the rose. Use any remaining yarn tails to sew the rose head firmly to the top of the stem.

Step 6: Add the Leaves. Using the long tails on your leaves, sew them onto the stem at your desired height. Wrap the tails around the stem to secure them tightly. Weave in all remaining ends.
