Squaring Off the Circle

Round 10: Join Blue in first st. Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, hdc in next 4 sts, dc in next 4 sts, tr in next 4 sts. (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next st, tr in next 4 sts, dc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 4 sts, dc in next 4 sts, tr in next 4 sts. Repeat from * to * twice. (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in next st, tr in next 4 sts, dc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 4 sts. Join with sl st to first st. (120 sts + 4 ch-2 corner spaces)

Appliqué Pieces

Eyes (Make 2)

With Black, make a magic circle.

Round 1: Ch 3, 10 dc in MC. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. Tighten ring. (11)

Round 2: Ch 1, working in BLO, sc in each st around. (11)

Round 3: Join White in first st of Round 1 (behind slip stitches of Round 2). Sl st in next 5 sts.

Fasten off, leaving long tails for sewing and embroidery.

Ears (Make 2)

With Cream, make a magic circle.

Row 1: Ch 1, 3 sc in MC. Turn. (3)

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st. Turn. (6)

Cheeks (Make 2)

With Pink, make a magic circle.

Ch 3, 11 dc in MC. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. Tighten ring. (12)

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Sweater

With Red, ch 31.

Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (30)

Row 2: Sc2tog, 1 sc in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog. Turn. (28)

Rows 3-7: Repeat Row 2. (18 sts after Row 7)

Fasten off Red, leaving long tail for sewing.

Join Fuzzy White yarn.

Row 8: Ch 3, working in BLO, 1 dc in each st across. (18)

Fasten off. Weave in ends

Assembly

Hair Bangs: Fold edges under and sew to top of face on each side. Sew only three sides of each bang piece.
Hair Bun: Weave yarn around top of Round 3 stitches to cinch bun together. Stuff with poly-fil before cinching completely. Sew to top of head.
Eyes: Sew eyes to face, then use white yarn tail to embroider eye highlights.
Ears: Sew ears to sides of face.
Cheeks: Sew pink cheeks to face.
Nose: Sew cream nose to center of face.
Sweater: Sew red sweater below face, with fuzzy white trim at the top.
Smile: Join Red yarn to top of Round 5. Work surface slip stitches around next 9 stitches of Round 5 (10 total slip stitches). Use yarn ends to embroider sides of smile. Position smile evenly below eyes.
