Meet Amelie’s Horse: A Magical Crochet Pattern for Your Dream Companion
The Mane
Prepare 48 pieces of yarn, each 28 cm long. (I used 4 light purple, 4 light pink, and the rest milky.)
Mark 3 loops in the middle between rows 19 and 20. This is where the mane attachment begins. The mane should be attached in the middle of the back of the head from rows 19 to 34, with 3 strands in each row.
After securing all strands (see the folding method in the original photos), lay them to one side and trim with scissors to your desired length. I braided a small pigtail with 6 strands of different colors for extra charm!
You can experiment with your hairstyle—longer or shorter, braided or loose!

Stuff the body tightly. Cut the thread, leaving a long end for sewing on the head.
Upper Paws (Make 2)
*Stuff the paws 2/3 full, leaving the top unstuffed. Pay attention to the decreases in row 8—when stuffing, the shape of the paw should remain.*
With dark brown yarn:
- R1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
- R2: 6 inc. (12)
- R3: (1 sc, inc) x 6. (18)
- R4: BLO: 18 sc.
- R5: 18 sc.
- R6: (4 sc, dec) x 3. (15)
- R7: 15 sc.
Change to milky yarn. Fasten off dark brown and cut.
- R8: 4 sc, 3 dec, 5 sc. (12)
- R9: 12 sc.
Change to brown yarn. Fasten off milky and cut.
- R10 – R21: 12 sc. (12 rows)
Knit a few more sc so that the foot points inward when sewn to the body. Fold the edges together and knit 6 sc through both layers. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Lower Paws (Make 2)
*Stuff the paws 2/3 full, leaving the top unstuffed. Pay attention to the decreases in row 10—when stuffing, the shape of the paw should remain.*
With dark brown yarn:
- R1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
- R2: 6 inc. (12)
- R3: (1 sc, inc) x 6. (18)
- R4: 1 sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, 1 sc. (24)
- R5: BLO: 24 sc.
- R6: 24 sc.
- R7: 3 sc, dec, (6 sc, dec) x 2, 3 sc. (21)
- R8 – R9: 21 sc. (2 rows)
Change to milky yarn. Fasten off dark brown and cut.
- R10: 7 sc, 3 dec, 8 sc. (18)
- R11: 18 sc.
Change to brown yarn. Fasten off milky and cut.
- R12: 4 sc, (1 sc, dec) x 3, 5 sc. (15)
- R13 – R23: 15 sc. (11 rows)
Knit a few more sc so that the foot points inward when sewn to the body. Fold the edges together and knit 7-8 sc through both layers. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembling the Horse
- Attach the Head: Secure the head with pins or knitting needles. The dc of the last row of the body should be exactly in the middle of the back of the head, ensuring a slight forward tilt. Sew the head to the body with a slight forward tilt, adding a little more stuffing to the neck as you sew.
- Neck Finishing: If stuffing shows through the last row of the body, make a few extra stitches to bring them closer together.
- Attach Upper Paws: Pin the upper legs in place and sew them one row below the head.
- Attach Lower Paws: Pin the lower legs and sew them between rows 13 and 14 of the body. Check that they are even on both sides and symmetrical with the upper paws.
The Tail
Mark 2 stitches exactly in the middle of the back of the body between rows 14 and 15.
Prepare 10 pieces of milky yarn, 18 cm long. Attach them using the same method as the mane—5 pieces in each marked loop. Trim the tail with scissors to your desired length.
