Notes Before You Start

  • This pattern is worked in joined rounds.
  • The beginning chain (Ch 1 or Ch 2) at the start of each round does not count as a stitch.
  • Always join the round with a slip stitch into the very first stitch of that round, not the beginning chain.
  • The number in brackets at the end of each round, like (30 sts), is your total stitch count for that round.

Flip Flop Sole Instructions

Using your main sole color (e.g., Blue):

Round 1

Ch 12. Starting in the second chain from the hook, work 1 HDC in the next 10 chains. In the very last chain, make 5 HDC (this will curve your work around the end). Now, working along the opposite side of the starting chain, make 1 HDC in the next 9 stitches. In the final stitch (which was the first chain you skipped), make 6 HDC. Join with a sl st to the first HDC of the round. (30 sts)

Ch 1. Make 1 SC in each of the next 10 sts. Repeat the sequence [1 SC in the next 2 sts, 2 SC in the next st] a total of 5 times over the next 15 sts. Next, make 1 SC in each of the next 10 sts. Finish by repeating [1 SC in the next 2 sts, 2 SC in the next st] 5 times over the last 15 sts. Join with a sl st. (60 sts)

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Flip Flop Strap Instructions (Make 2)

Using your accent color (e.g., Purple):

Row 1

Ch 15. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly and Finishing

  1. Take one of the crocheted straps (the chain of 15). Use your yarn needle to sew one end of the strap to the top side of the flip flop sole.
  2. Sew the other end of the same strap to the opposite side of the sole, creating the top part of the “V” shape.
