    • Quantity: 7 skeins (350g).
  • Hook: 2.5mm (for a tight, durable stitch).
  • Extras: Yarn needle, scissors, stitch markers (optional)

  • MR = Magic Ring
  • SC = Single Crochet
  • HDC = Half Double Crochet

Finished Size

The tote measures approximately 12–14 inches wide (depending on tension). Want it bigger? Just add more rows

Step-by-Step Crochet Instructions

Part 1: Making the Granny Squares (Make 13)

Row 1 (Center Ring)

  1. MR, work 20 SC into the ring.
  2. SL ST to join into the first SC.

Row 2 (Cross Stitch Pattern)

  1. Beg Cross Stitch: CH 4, SK 3 sts, work a cross stitch (see PDF for detailed instructions).
  2. Continue with 3 Cross Stitches and 4 Corner Cross Stitches around.
  3. SL ST to join.

Rows 3–7 (Expanding the Square)

  • Alternate between HDC rounds and Cross Stitch rounds to build the square.
  • By Row 7, you’ll have 140 HDC.
  • Fasten off and weave in ends.

Part 2: Assembling the Tote

  1. Seam the Squares:
    • Lay squares back-to-back and SL ST through BLO to join.
    • Follow the PDF’s assembly guide (joining squares in strips first, then connecting strips).
  2. Form the Bag Shape:
    • Fold the joined strips upward to create the bag’s sides.
    • Crochet the diagonal and outer edges together.

Part 3: Adding the Straps

Row 1 (Base of Straps)

  1. Join yarn at the top edge, CH 1, and SC evenly around.
  2. Decrease 2 SC at the “dips” (corners) for shaping.

Rows 2–5 (Finishing the Straps)

  1. Row 2: SC around, CH 110 for strap length (adjust as desired).
  2. Rows 3–5: SC around, decreasing at dips and strap edges for neatness.
  3. Optional Lining: Add extra SC rounds inside for reinforced straps.

Final Thoughts

And there you have it—your very own Making Links Tote! This bag is washable (though air-drying is best to avoid shrinkage) and perfect for adding a handmade touch to your daily routine.
