Part 3: The Strap & Clasps

  1. With the strap yarn and 2.0 mm hook, ch 6.
  2. Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, work 5 sc across. Continue working 5 sc per row until the strap reaches your desired length (approx. 82 cm for a 3-year-old).
  3. Optional: For a decorative touch, join a contrasting color and work 1 round of sc around the entire strap, working 3 sc in each corner to help it lay flat.
  4. Attaching Clasps: Fold over one end of the strap (about 15-16 rows worth) around the swivel clasp and sew it securely in place. Repeat on the other end.
  5. Making Loops: To create loops for the clasps to attach to, join yarn under the edge of the bag flap. Ch 5. Skip one stitch on the bag body and sl st into the next stitch to attach. Turn, work 4 sc across the chain, and then 1 more sc into the same base stitch where you attached. Fasten off securely. Make one loop on each side of the flap.
