About Me

Lina Morgen

Hello and welcome! I’m Lina Morgen. 🧶✨
Founder of CottonPatterns — a cozy online space where creativity meets comfort, one stitch at a time.

My journey into the world of creativity began early and has blossomed into a lifelong passion for fiber arts and thoughtful design.

I was born in the United States, in the city of Rustavi, Georgia—a place close to my heart and full of character. At the age of two, my family relocated to Germany, where I entered kindergarten without speaking a word of German. It was there that a kind-hearted teacher, Frau Pfenning, introduced me to the language of crafting by teaching me how to knit entirely through demonstration—a moment that truly changed my life.

By the time I returned to the UK at age nine, I was eager to learn more. My mother taught me the basics of crochet, and I was quickly hooked (pun intended!). I started by making tiny clothes for dolls using only single crochet, experimenting with shaping by trial and error. I also learned pit knitting from her—a technique handed down from her grandmother.

Creativity has always shaped my life. I studied Art & Design at Falmouth Art School, and later pursued a degree in Graphic Design & Illustration at Southampton Solent University. After graduation, I worked as a product developer for a large international jewellery manufacturer and later led an e-commerce department focused on online jewellery sales.

But while my career in design was fulfilling, my heart always longed for something more tactile, soulful, and handmade. That passion drew me back to crochet, knitting, sewing, and occasionally illustration—crafts that have since become an integral part of who I am.

Now, through CottonPatterns, I get to share this joy with others. Whether it’s through teaching, designing original crochet patterns, or simply telling stories with yarn, I feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I love every day.

For over a decade, I’ve been teaching workshops and connecting with fiber lovers at places like Riverhouse Barn in Walton-on-Thames, Whichcraft Wools in Cheam, and Farnham Maltings. My greatest joy is helping others find inspiration, peace, and beauty in handmade things.

CottonPatterns is more than a website—it’s a celebration of cozy creativity. Here you’ll find lovingly designed crochet patterns, tutorials, and resources made with care and style.
